Welcome JRC! Good to know I have yet another fellow city-dweller reading this thing (once a city-dweller, always a city-dweller; point being, you understand :) Anyway, I thought I'd be getting into the city tonight, but alas...duty calls. Thanks for posting :)

When you're homesick for your apartment, then you know it's home. That's a good thing.

Even though our VA townhome is twice the size and half the cost, my wife and I still miss our NYC apartment -- even with its annoying neighbors, lack of AC in summer, and inconsistent heat (at best) in the winter.

As for finding one's home in flames...I've seen that happen to others more times than once. It's not an easy thing to see. When it happens, it always makes me wonder (a) the condition of their soul and (b) how I would react as a Christian in their shoes.

oh, i've had the is-my-apartment-burning-down? thoughts before myself. it happened when i couldn't remember if i turned something off at home (iron? stove? mini oven?). i was in the bus just a few minutes away from home when i heard the fire engines. i was SURE they were going to my place to put out the blaze.

thankfully they weren't.

but it's actually sort of often that i come home expecting to find smoke just billowing out of my windows. it's strange, i know.
