Thanks for your thoughts, guys. Sligh, I'm all for being in love. It's fabulous, frankly! Judging by your comments, I think we're in perfect agreement, so I won't beat a dead horse :o) One thing we can remember is that God's love is rock solid and His choice, but it doesn't mean He doesn't like us. On the contrary, He delights in us (Ps. 18)! There is a great and wonderful mystery in love that 'delights' in its object. We've all experienced it. Most times it doesn't seem to make sense, but oh, it moves us! But even in this delight there are degrees: my friends mom described it (as I'm sure others have) as the difference between the bright but short-lived explosion of flames when one lights a pile of kindling and the dimmer, but deeper, long-burning glow of a log burning from its very core. One is bright, but doesn't give much heat, and fades quickly if it has no bigger log to burn. Maybe that bigger log is the true committment that remains even when the kindling burns away. Eventually, it ignites at its untouchable center and glows redder and hotter than the first flame, and still gives off the occasional sparks ;o)

I agree with you (and Mazak), but I think our attempts to de-mystify love, make it a bit more concrete, sometimes tend to sterilize it. I can think of some people who have been in relationships in which everything was perfect, and the only sensible thing to do was keep dating or get hitched. Should they continue? Merely being in love is not enough--you need much more than that. But if a couple has the "much more" but not the "in love," maybe they should reconsider.

I couldn't agree more with your thoughts on love, marriage, etc. Happily single for now, I hope to one day find a relationship that actually mirrors Christ and the church - for real, y'know?
Sometimes (when my eyes are on circumstances), I doubt that such a love is possible, but thankfully God has allowed actual examples in my life (like a friend and her husband who I talked to last night). I suppose it's just another illustration of the power of God's love (in that only His love is capable of making humans emulate it). =)
