Mike's! Good place! Great food! Boston . . . How I miss that place! Keep working on trying to get Kristin Lawton to head to the city. Maybe "Moddy" will join you too.

Stephen, I recommend, should you ever again have opportunity to visit Mike's, that you avoid the "flavored" cannolis--the custard, the lemon, the chocolate; I don't know. they didn't taste bad, but the texture was lost in the additional flavoring. In the original recipe -- old-fashioned sweetened ricotta - there remains the unique, creamy (instead of slightly sticky) ricotta texture and a much subtler (instead of more cloying) sweetness. If you care to make it more interesting, they wrap this more authentic confection in a variety of shells, from the plain traditional, to a version dipped in a variety of chocolate, to a rolled toffee-like cookie shell--but you'll see all of that when you're back in the area.

Just don't forget to stop by the IBCB if you ever are!

When I was in the North End, I unfortunately didn't get any cannolis from Mike's (although a friend did recommend them). I did have some from Maria's Pastry Shop, though, which weren't too shabby.

oh Jen. you just put me into a state of sentimentality. i'm going to have to bring my turkish tea glasses with me if/when i get up there to visit you..
Turkish cuisine is possibly the best i've ever had in my life.
sigh.
glad you were able to experience a bit of the best country on earth.
Timmy and I are saving up for another trip over there if you want to join us...

Katherine! Do you remember when we went out to Indian food back in the days of Greenville and your old car, George? I remember they had iced Chai (instead of the traditional southern sweet tea) and it was sooooo good. They don't have it up here. I suppose they invented it to cater to the southern palette...oh, well. Anyway, the "salsa" at this place, as I recall, was definitely more savory (not the sweet, fruity chutney flavor) made with chopped tomatoes and onions, but not any chiles or jalapenos; other herbs instead. There was another dip, too, with the bread, but my memory is even fuzzier on that point :o)

Tim, you and Gwen are my inspiration. I told my company so last night.

Joy: right back at you ;o)

Yummy! I love Indian food. The salsa is called chutney. At my favorite Indian spot it is mango chutney.
